What economic impacts resulted from spotted owl protection? Protection of spotted owl habitat had significant economic effects in the Pacific Northwest, including:

Decline of timber industry: Tens of thousands of jobs in logging and sawmills were lost as federal timber harvests decreased up to 90% in some areas. Loss of county revenues: Counties in Oregon and Washington lost revenues from reduced timber sales on public lands. Transition programs: The Northwest Economic Adjustment Initiative provided over $1.2 billion to assist displaced timber workers and communities. Changes in the logging workforce: Logging jobs became scarcer, mechanized, and shifted to private lands. Increased forest industry automation: Sawmills introduced new technologies requiring fewer workers to remain competitive. While owl protection delivered an economic blow to the region’s timber industry, other economic factors like automation and transition to second-growth forests also played a role in declining jobs.

According to this inquiry. The two breeds are compatible. Which means all we are losing is characteristics, and not the species itself.

And this video claims they are cross breeding with the Bard Owl. And all they are losing is their weakness. Yet they seem more interested in purity of breed, then strength of the environment.

What a bunch of grifters.

They have been using the spotted owl attack 40 years, these are the same people that drive spikes in trees that are being harvested. Same people that set neighborhoods on fire and ram fishing boats to sink them.

Eugenics for owls: No way, dude.
Eugenics for white people: 🤫

They seem to wish to kill 450k strong owls to preserve the purity of the weaker owls, and not allow 'eugenics' to allow the weaker breed to grow stronger.

This is an intensely, obscenely dumb idea. Wow

It really seems like past a certain point, conservation of species is just not logical and could lead to populations that can't effectively compete and won't be able to adapt as they would naturally. Beyond maintaining some amount of continuous habitable land an enforcing hunting regulations, we probably should let nature do its thing.
