I don't know much about this issue. It looks like this is re if you go fishing yourself. Grocery store seafood seems safer re this issue per OP:
In its 2022 survey of seafood, the FDA found much lower levels of PFAS in seafood from grocery stores. The median levels of total PFAS detected by the EPA were 280 times higher than levels in commercially sold fish tested by the FDA.

Yeah I don't know a ton about it either, from the article I gathered that these were self-caught fish as you mentioned, and they mentioned they were freshwater fish, so not from the ocean. More information as to the source of the PFAS contamination and why would have been nice

I had assumed freshwater would be cleaner than ocean. Is that true? Is stuff from the ocean even worse? I guess I'd have to more research to find out.
