I understand that Monsanto developed the corn to be resistant to the Round-Up, but why ban all GMO plants? The native corn is modified by selective breeding. Pretty much the same thing. Sure, GMO usually means more yield but less nutrients, but why ban it? It has it's uses.

Corn is open pollinated, meaning its pollen floats in the air, sometimes a long distance. Thus GMO pollen contaminates crops that they prefer not to be GMO.

Yep, it's right there in the article, they want to preserve their local breeds. I don't think there's any problem with GMO but heritage breeds do need to be kept going. I mean that's likely where the GMO of the future will come from.
