If it's aliens, it's terrifying that our governments would attempt to kill them/shoot at them first instead of trying to make peace.

Keep in mind, these are the same governments who treat refugees sneaking across the border with kids gloves. So why piss off an intergalactic race that's bound to be smarter?

It's almost certainly unmanned. Also, I don't think our governments actually know if it's alien or not. It was a panic response.
