Poverty doesn't run in families because having poor parents causes people to grow up and be poor themselves. Poverty runs in families mostly due to genes.

Nature vs nurture. Both play a part, though the former seems to be MUCH more important.

I grew up in a pretty run down white working class neighbourhood. Pretty much everyone i knew had abusive & alcoholic/drug addict parents. No money for food, electric, gas heating etc. but I’d say about 50% of us actually made it out, & well the other half ended up just like their parents

In black neighbourhoods it seems more like 95% end up like their mom & pops… only a tiny minority have the IQ/temperament to make it.
