They have made a large number of innovations throughout history

Historically, the Chinese really weren't very innovative, other than the 'four great inventions.' The only other inventions were the seed drill and the iron plow (which revolutionised agriculture, granted).

and their creativity has skyrocketed during the last decades after a period of turmoil and catastrophic maoist governance.

China made three separate attempts to embark on an industrial revolution, and failed each time. It was only after their fourth attempt (when they had Western assistance) that they succeeded.
