I guess those two things might have saved his whiteness to most normies eyes back then.

The black clearly escalated the situation AND threw the first punch on camera. Like you said, the old white guy defended himself and only attacked him to the point where his assailant was unable to be a threat.

If self defense was the only thing that mattered, then clearly other people like Kyle Rittenhouse or George Zimmerman should have been worshipped by the media as well.

I'm not saying Beard Man was wrong for fighting back. It's the opposite. Everyone clearly saw he was the victim and not the black guy. Yet you would think this logic would apply to all future black/white conflicts that have since erupted.

But I think Markimus answered this. 2010 was before the BLM movement had gained traction and made it risky to defend yourself. EVEN when you do have the right to.

Also, 1) smart phones with cameras hadn't completely saturated the world yet, 2) and people didn't yet have the reflex ingrained in them to immediately whip out their phone and start recording at the first sign of a disturbance.

Imagine if this video was put on social media today.

The video would start with Epic Beard Man beating down on his attacker and cut right before he stops, then headlined with "Racist white attacks Black man on bus" or something like that.

Beard man would have lost his job (if not retired) and would be pleading guilty to avoid hard time for his racially motivated hate crime.
