Germany and France want a more unified EU that can be another node of world power besides the US and China. Their desire for European power is undermined by NATO and American presence in Europe. Countries like Poland and the UK also court the US to counteract Franco-German domination.

My guess is that the Franco-German core wants closer integration with Russia in a bid to reduce American influence in the continent.

No, only France wants that. It's part of Macron's Jupitarianism. Germany wants to de-escalate the Russia crisis because they're highly dependent on its gas. The Germans are still the biggest NATO cucks on the continent.

Perhaps, but the EU as a whole is dependent on Russian gas and they're not as anti-sanctions as Germany. There are definitely bigger geopolitical factors at play. Remember, these two did not participate in the Iraq war either but pro-nato countries like Poland and the UK did.

Yes, but some countries -- like Germany -- are much more dependent on it.

That's because France has some independence and dignity left. For Germany it was just cucked guilt. They didn't want to invade a brown country.
