Would you call Iran/Persia white or brown?

Because they were the biggest and most powerful empire for quite a long time.

Edit: Should also mention there are indeed some very pasty Middle Eastern Men.

Saddam's top general was both white and had red hair.

Well the fashion for pale skin being a mark of the upper class came from Iran. Before the byzantine empire for European men the fashion was to be tanned because athleticism and militarism was thought superior to wealth and ease. And certainly in North West Europe every peasant is pale for 6 months of the year so it's hard for it to be status symbol.
