I do not think I am on the losing side of the argument as much as I am throwing pearls before swine. I agree that this sort of thing is trotted out when one can refute reasons or persuasions submitted for a particular position.

I am not sure anyone should be able to have whatever opinion they want. Whether that means people should be politically persecuted is of course unclear to me, but it does mean they people who hold stupid or wrongheaded positions should be mocked and ridiculed mercilessly, unto tears and beyond.
