I was thinking that there was going to be something far bigger to it. Viruses use transition metals to replicate and do other bullshit with, and if there was a way to fuck that process up for them by binding ionzed metals with something that was viralcidal, it would mess up their little capsids and keep them from replicating properly. Sort of like how you can ruin the cell walls of some bacteria by screwing up their ability to maintain the peptidoglycan. Anyhow, we're technically supposed to find ways to safely do all of this in ways that don't disturb human homeostasis, but I'm sure that safety and damns given are heartily tossed out the window by the companies that make these pharmaceuticals.
