Nobody saying they’re on our side, but they are the enemy of our enemy & aspects of their society are certainly better (more ‘based’) than our own today and should be emulated.

Also, fun fact (not that it’s relevant)… but I recently read that the Black Death probably came from the steppe near the Caspian sea. Most historians apparently now doubt it even reached China or India before the age of exploration… for what it’s worth 🤷‍♂️

As far as I recall, the black plague came to Europe from Crimea. The Mongols were sieging a port city in Crimea and flung plague-ridden corpses over the city walls. Genoese merchants escaped and carried the plague with them to Italy. From there it spread to the rest of Europe

Yeah, that’s the first time/place it was recorded (excluding the Justinian plague), although the Italian/Greek factories there were importing goods, people & animals from all over the place so it doesn’t necessarily mean Crimea was where it came from originally.

Never the less, it does make much more sense that it originated near where it was first recorded, rather than in China, then travelling half way across the world without anyone bothering to write about it or it’s uniquely awful symptoms.

    Deflect asian responsibility.

It's known the mongol commanders troops were getting felled by it so regardless of origin they were responsible by catapulting corpses into Caffa.
