Political scientists in France are speechless. They've never seen a candidate rise so fast, especially one who hasn't even officially announced his candidacy yet.

Macron would best Zemmour 55%-45% in the second round, the poll showed. Macron beat Le Pen 66%-%34 in the run-off in 2017. The Harris Interative poll showed Macron against Le Pen at 53%-47%, were she to get through this time.

The fact that he's already at 45% in the the second round is absolutely astonishing. Keep in mind that Harris Interactive polls are always slightly biased in favor of Macron. That, combined with the margin of error, means Zemmour could actually be at 51%.

By the way, surveys have shown that Zemmour is the only candidate on the right that is able to unify both middle class conservatives and working class populists, which is necessary in order to win. Another factor is the large abstention vote in France. I predict Zemmour will do very well with them.

she betrayed voters and said she didn't want france to leave the EU. So that means letting in whatever immigrants forever.

Leaving the EU only made the immigration issue worse in the UK. From what I read Zemmour doesn't support leaving the EU either.

In the EU countries don't have the power themselves to restrict immigration. If it got worse after brexit it must be the UK's own fault. Did Boris sell them out or something?

well they need to leave EU and then also of course make and keep laws restricting immigration. UK did the first part but not the second but at least they did have the sovereignty to make that move. If she won't commit to leaving the EU she can't win the election so that's the bottom line.

Pretty sure this will be the effect of Zemmour whether by intention or not. I think he would be a disaster for numerous reasons; in particular, that he doesn't actually have a party to keep the Right in power after his Presidential term. It is much safer to vote for Le Pen in the hope that RN becomes a lasting force after they get into power.

If this happens, I imagine French politics largely becoming RN vs. EELV. The Green Left is replacing the Red Left in Europe, even after choosing a disastrous candidate in Germany they were still surpassing the SPD, but the SPD has now won because Green voters have shifted back because of the scandals around the Green candidate.

Then we'll see something like a Macron vs. Melenchon second round. Macron will win this safely. Whatever happens, Macron's second term is practically secured. The only question is whose votes he will win on (if against Melenchon, he'll win with Right votes; if against Le Pen or Zemmour, he'll win with Left/non-white votes).
