Neither, America is part of an empire but is not itself an empire. The political center of this empire is Israel, of which America is just part of the territory with no political will of its own.

America is the military, industrial, economic, financial, and cultural center of the empire with some of these being partially delegated to other places like the City of London. America is definitely integral to the empire, but it is simply the empire's territory and not the empire itself.

Agreed.

"Empire" is an antiquated term.

Yet, I'd still call it an Empire with 50 states, MANY territories, many wars, endless sanctions (war of a different kind), and CIA infiltration psyops and meddling globally (covert war).

And how much was the US ever really split from England? The Queens roots are not British and the international Anglo/Western ruling class, and their industry, business, and finance have never been limited to borders.
