Oh, and one more thing. *"Right-wing" economics has always been a scam. the entire field of neoclassical economics - which is the hegemonic theory within economics - is literally propaganda funded by Wall Street. John Bates Clark was the man who's mostly responsible for this. If you want to truly understand the history of economic thought I would recommend Michael Hudson's work. He's a Veblenite, and a brilliant writer as well.

*I put right-wing in sarcasm quotes because it's not really right-wing in any true sense of the word. It's fundamentally liberal. When it comes to economics however, the non-Marxist left has always been vastly superior to most other schools of thought. They also influenced fascists quite a lot.

What really set me on this track is the question: Prosperity is determined by how much goods you can consume. Money after all is just a means of putting a value stamp on goods so that they can be exchanged. Since the 1950s, technology has progressed to the point where industry using the available resources can produce more than enough basic goods, luxury needs, houses, food and electronics for everyone. There is a problem of overproduction.

So why do people still suffer from shortage of good when we can already produce vast surplus of it? Why can't we just give everyone their required products? We can make much more than what is needed, enough to the point where you can easily sustain a leasure class at the top and still give everyone more than what they need.

The answer to this question leads you down the rabbit hole of finance capitalism, wealth inequality and unnecessary competition. Capitalism is essentially an outdated economic system that has outlived its usefullness since the end of the industrial age. There's really no need for it in the information age. Even less so considering advances in computing and algorithms which can more efficiently allocate resources than the market.

Hell, even the great ''geniuses'' of wall street all rely on supercomputers to make their stock and bond investments.

There's an insane amount of overproduction on garbage we don't even need.

So why do people still suffer from shortage of good when we can already produce vast surplus of it? Why can't we just give everyone their required products?

It's called artificial scarcity. We're literally destroying food every year to keep prices up. The market isn't actually a distribution system, it's a system to make money.

The answer to this question leads you down the rabbit hole of finance capitalism, wealth inequality and unnecessary competition.

Yes, especially unnecessary competition. Market "efficiency" isn't efficient at all. What we need is technical efficiency.

Capitalism is essentially an outdated economic system that has outlived its usefullness since the end of the industrial age.

It isn't just capitalism. It's the price system in its entirety. Capitalism is just its latest iteration.

Even less so considering advances in computing and algorithms which can more efficiently allocate resources than the market.

Absolutely spot-on. Look up Project Cybersyn. Imagine what we could do with today's technology.

Excellent post. One of your best. I agree wholeheartedly.

Anyway, you really should read Veblen because he warned about the capacity of the price system to create excessive waste. That's what these bullshit jobs really are, waste. It's what you get when business people run the system. If engineers ran the system it would be infinitely more efficient. The system is inherently wasteful because of both intrinsic obsolescence and planned obsolescence. Veblen already described these problems over a hundred years ago, and it's only gotten exponentially worse over time. Just look at advertising. He always attacked advertising as being a misallocation of resources, but today most corporations actually spend more money on advertising that they do on R&D. That's insane. The waste is literally everywhere. The system is saturated with it. Not to mention the disastrous impact this has on the environment.

As far as automation and leisure are concerned, Keynes made the argument that today we would enjoy a 15-hour workweek. I highly recommend his prescient essay Economic Possibilities for Our Grandchildren. The reason why we don't have a 15-hour workweek is because of neoliberal globalization and financialization. That process started in the 1970s. If we continued on the path of the 1950s and 1960s we would have had a 15-hour workweek by now. The elites deliberately derailed the path towards The Jetsons for a path towards global Brazil. The reality of the matter is that only some kind of fascistic order can create a leisure society. It demands economic interventionism, protectionism, eugenics, and environmentalism. In short, all the great ideas of the American Progressive Era, which Veblen was an expression of. Both liberalism and communism will never achieve such a utopian society for obvious reasons.

By the way, shorter workweeks are actually more productive. Several companies all over the world have experimented with a 30-hour workweek and the results were overall positive. There's literally no reason whatsoever why we're still working ourselves to death.

EDIT: Greg Johnson made similar arguments in this video: https://www.bitchute.com/video/FXBeWFobFhpM/.

Standardized 40 hour work weeks are simply a manifestation of Parkinson's Law.

"work expands so as to fill the time available for its completion"

Hunter-gatherers only worked a couple of hours a day, and a lot of rich people don't work at all. It's not a law. It's propaganda.

You've missed the point. It isn't propaganda, it's an observation of human behavior.

Fascinating book. A bit over simplistic at times, but nonetheless a useful framework in viewing the world.

One thing I love about this subreddit is how it doesn’t shy away from “leftist” information sources. We should keep it that way.

I would also recommend "The Grip of Death: A Study of Modern Money, Debt Slavery, and Destructive Economics" which deals with this topic.

The amount of anti finance rhetoric on this sub is apalling.

Financial analysis help to allocate capital properly. They assess risk of corporations to price in the possibility of default in their loans- loans absent of usury. I agree this system is extremely bloated, but largely due to regulatory compliance, and mega corporations due to bailouts.

In a better world the financial sector would have a few small banks in every city and they compete to loan capital at the lowest rates they can by assessing risk of the loanee. These banks would have small hr departments due to low employment regulatory burdens and low employee count who have a strong relationship with the owner. These financiers would actually be providing value because they would work to set the prices for loans.

Unfortunately we won't ever get there because defi is going to kill non real estate loans. It's going to be too easy to get capital at reasonable rates, and increased compute power is making startups cheaper to run

Nope. The whole point of loans is to get a temporary infusion on large money into your account. Buying crypto means you are spending money. In theory you could gain money by selling it at a profit but that's not a model that can be applied on a societal scale. Crypto prices would have to increase to infinity to keep the system up and at the end of the day, some one has to take a loss for someone else to profit.

Plus, there's the energy issue. In order to keep up with the demand of more and more crypto for an increasing mass of people, more and more mining rigs will have to be set up. It would become a massive drain on energy resources and it simply can't be sustained in a world where economic growth continues in the third world while fuel reserves continue to dwindle.

Crypto is madness. We need to figure out how to get off of money completely.

Ultimately, in this age of automation, computers and industrialization, man should be enjoying a golden age. Society could run perfectly with just 40% of the adult population working. Work days could be reduced to 4 days a week and work hours could take a haircut as well. Even with such limited work hours, industry and agriculture could easily produce all the goods we need and supply chains could distribute them.

This is certainly true. Imagine what those hours could go into. But alas, so much time has been wasted for a few cents profit (if that) for someone who already has a practically unlimited amount of wealth.

Something else is that a lot of public services and things like that are literally scams.

Wars and rivalries are no longer struggles of ideology or martial prowess as they once were, although these factors still exist, modern wars are essentially an "investment"; a machine to trun human lives and suffering into extra profit, with the added benefit of keeping the goyim distracted and controlled. Their destruction of unwanted ideas is also a virtue to these (((corrupt elites))).

The same is true for the "Justice" System; it operates like a business, you pay enough, you get out of the shit (unless the elite hate you) no matter how bad, and if you're not a criminal, you probably will be when you get out of prison, because such facilities are solely for silencing opposition and creating better criminals, not curbing unwanted behavior or protecting society (if that were the case, the Jews and most non-Whites would be in there, and Whites who said mean things on Faceberg wouldn't be). The police ignore non-White crimes to prosecute White dissidence and petty crime. There was even a post on 4chan somewhere not too long ago (got screencapped and posted quite a few places, don't remember if here was one of them) explaining how firemen in some/many places around the US have similar issues with grifting, dereliction of their purpose, and corruption.

Their goal is to commodify everything and enslave us. Those movies from the 80s and 90s with the horrible dystopias were warnings, intentionally or otherwise, and nobody heeded them. To (roughly) quote Karl from InRangeTV, "I always loved those movies like Alien and Blade Runner growing up, I just never thought I'd end up living in such a society." Karl is definitely a lolbert, but his point is painfully accurate. The only difference is, the big bad guys are beloved and relied on by everybody, and they do their best to hide how much they hate us and exploit us rather than being outward with it.

Unfortunately when statue and bank credit issuance is controlled by soulless corporatists, Zionists and masons; stakeholder captalism based on st-Simonism technocracy will lead to impact value market trans-humanism, bio-sensors and mass surveillance making humans commodities.

ADL, SPLC, NAAC and a thousand other political organizations, PACs and lobby group like PNAC, AIPAC, Zionist congress of America among many others. All of these employ large numbers of full time staff.

These people are the private security forces of Jews. Their job is to police Whitey. Basically goons from the Bullshit Jobs list.

        An admirable post.
