In American football, huge negro men run around a field and grab each other while being cheered on by half naked pretty white girls. If you watch and enjoy this, you are effectively being a cuckold. Plus, you might have some homoerotic tendencies as well.

There are some white players. I am well aware of the inconsistencies, moral and ideological tensions. There is nothing cuckolding about it for me. I am having increased misgivings. Even so, I will not tolerate being disrespected or insulted for liking the Packers.

That said, let's focus on this spectacle with the NBA, which for me is over the top.

I'm not insulting you directly, i'm just saying people should stop watching this shit.

Sports is great. Its great physical exercise, it helps you bond with your mates and lifts spirits...given that you play it. Spectator sports is bread and circus for a decaying civilization.

Spectator sports is bread and circus for a decaying civilization.

I am well aware of this, and it has been a source of intense intrapersonal conflict for over 25 years. Things may be coming to a head though. For starters, the Packers have underperformed in pretty spectacular fashion over the past 25 years, and I think we are on the precipice of a new dark age. Besides that, the League just keeps diluting the quality of it's product. Another p!ayoff spot that waters down importance of regualr season, a 17th and soon 18th game. League let the Patriots and Tom Brady get away with absolute murder because Goodwill and Robert Kraft are all too chummy (conflict of interest, anyone). And now the Black Lives Matter shit, even doubling down by playing the black national anthem very game.

I know I will be derided by some but I have an affection for the Packers that fee things on the planet can rival. The colors, the uniforms, the Ga onthe helmet, the fact there should not even be a team in a city that small all resonate with me I can scarcely describe.

Anyway, I just watched second half of game six out of some affinity for some of my brethren. I am somewhat repulsed by certain aspects of Packers fan culture though, including being way too chummy with Seahawks and Vikings fans, the divide, almost civil war between true Packers fans and Favre fans. Lambeau Field is no longer a tough place to play bc a lot of season ticket holders are institution s that resell on secondary market, coupled with many holders being boomer types thhat complain wephwn enthusiastic fans stand up. Then you have assholes who call guts liie me spoiled bc I am indignant we have only won two titles in over 25 years of elite quarterback play.

Which of course makes me wonder why I watched this since I have little sense of community with others in this ersatz tribe. Perhaps to see what a sad spectacle all of this is? Truly bizarre to see some pallid, sullen New with spectacles take the microphone at the end of the game. Truly surreal shit, including the lightskinned black woman who is pretty poor as an orator/presenter. I bet I could find some of her verbiage verbatim in past championship interviews. Lots of ups and downs for your team, battled through so much, blah, blah, blah.

Living a few miles from the GBP in the 60s was what first caused me to develop my theories on human stupidity. The 'interest' in a bunch of employees playing an entirely irrelevant game simply made no sense whatsoever. What would have to have happened to someone that they could be led to fanaticism over employee sports at some company?

[–]Richard_Parker[S] 1 insightful - 2 fun1 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 2 fun -  (13 children)

Employee sports? You are talking about one of the most storied franchises in all of sport. The Yankees of the NFL except not being an avatar for New York, buying championships etc. The uniforms, colors, the oval G symbol are all beautiful. It is also in a place where it is nigh impossible for a professional sports team to be. And yet is there because of that history and tradition of excellence.

Sorry you do not "get it."

[–]Node 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (12 children)

What is there to "get"? What's important about watching people with no connection to your life play a game with a ball?

If one were to argue corporate sportsball is justified in existing, what would be one argument in favor of it?

[–]Richard_Parker[S] 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (11 children)

I have already run off a number of unique characteristics of the Packers that are unlike any entity on the planet. Before the stupid titletoen district, there were residential homes right across the street from Lambeau Field.

There is a connection to my life, just as much as my favorite musicians, artists, and authors are an important part of my life.

Today the Cleveland Indians announced a name change to the Guardians. It all looks stupid and ridiculous. The point being is something like the Packers could not be invented today. As the primordial, ancient power of the NFL, there is something mystical about. You will never understand.

I understand more about it than you know. I just see it as the stupid and ridiculous crutch for the lesser abled that it is.

Note that you've not been able to come up with a single justification for its existence, so I'll help you out.

Next time someone asks why corporate sportsball is justified, point out that it's a sort of panacea for those who got the 'affordable' cognitive package. There's so little going on in there that corporate sportsball literally fills in some of the holes.

Bread and circuses

a diet of entertainment or political policies on which the masses are fed to keep them happy and docile.

"with football and politics as the bread and circuses of our decadent empire, whither religion?"

Note the example they give. I'll let you do the further research on the target market for bread and circuses.

My recommendation is to stop defending the undefendable. And if you've been finding yourself identifying with the unwashed masses, seek a cure.

I am not defending the NFL or sportsball as it currently is. I am say it not saying the Packers have some very unique features that not only make them palatable to me, but are attractive to me in a powerful way. If you go throught he history of hockey, football, and baseball, you simply cannot find a town or small city team whose rarly legacy propelled to endure. All the rest folded.

I understand more about it than you know. I just see it as the stupid and ridiculous crutch for the lesser abled that it is.

Lesser abled? I understand the problems with sportsball as need and circuses, the problem with asshole megalomanic athletes who do not give a fuck about the fans or really the team as anyone one. Some trees are still and unyielding, others bend and are more pliable.

I am quite confident I am probably the most fiercely individualisfic of anyone in here. I like the Packers even though there are tensions with my ideological and political proclivities. And I remain a fan even though it does not pair too well with my musical tastes. Not many Packers fans listen to stuff like Velvet Acid Christ, Death in June, Funker Vogt. Probably a few listen to Joy Division since hipster docuehbags discovered them, popularized them.

Same sort of nuance, pliability that allows me to enjoy Das Ich as art even though their politics--particularly Bruno Kramm's--are absolute shit.

Don't know about that. They do have great figures. They just do it for the living, its good money. Its just that its derogatory. Its something actually demeaning to women but you'll never hear elephantisis-inflicted feminists complain about that.
