For his part, Clapton, once again, tells of his vaccination story, which he says left him bedridden for two weeks. Exacerbated by his pre-existing medical conditions, such as emphysema and nerve damage, the Astra-Zeneca (AZ) vaccine, he says, gave him many of the well-reported symptoms like chills,

The man is 76 years old as well. Yeah, I'm sure it was the vaccine that broke his hands and not his age...

And I'm sure you and the avclub would know better than him what affects his health.

I do.

Ultimately, some responsibility when dealing with the public's health can't be left in the hands of the average idiot. Otherwise, we run into situations were children consuming candy all the time might convince themselves it's healthy, despite it making them fat and diabetic.

Countries like Vietnam, Australia and Taiwan showed that a strong government response is necessary to keep the public safe from an unknown virus. Because once the disease was not taken seriously, people lost their minds and spread the virus to all 4 corners of the Earth.

I agree to an extent.

But there came a point where the economic and psychological damage inflicted by lockdowns outweighed the threat of the virus.

Also, you are fairly naive to be consuming “free medicine” that has yet to pass all the necessary clinical trials.

There would be no lockdowns without the threat of overloaded hospitals. And that ties directly to my "average idiot" theory.

People kept travelling across borders and attended overcrowded events, it's no surprise why the virus did not go away, but it also mutated as well. India is the perfect example of this. Early on, Indians behaved and kept the spread of the virus low. But then they got cocky and started holding mega religious festivals, which lead to the current disaster happening in their country.

At least with a vaccine, the ordinary citizen can go back to doing their everyday activities but without the risk of killing people. Hence why I'm puzzled with anti-vax. They don't realize they're actually holding back society from opening up, which has already killed millions worldwide...

the average idiot

Eric Clapton, the average idiot. Sure. This man is incredibly smart and has had access to the best doctors in the world for 60 years. Yes, yes, former addict, I know.

Used to say things about keeping Britain White and praise the NF from memory as well. Now he's a typical boomer but back in the day the man was ourguy.

This interview where he was talking about the vaccine, he started talking about his teenage kids and describing their zealous attitudes towards the virus. It's amazing that an icon like Clapton still has teenagers that think he's an old fuddy duddy that doesn't know anything and THEY, because they learned it in school, know what's really going on.
