I'm just going to sticky this thread.

I'm seriously considering a move to ruqqus. I'm going to have an open forum for 6 days and then make the call. I know waltzroomate's vote is already on ruqqus but I'd like to hear from as many people as possible before Saturday.

[–]Jacinda 8 insightful - 2 fun8 insightful - 1 fun9 insightful - 2 fun -  (17 children)

I hope you sick around or at least continue posting here. Ruqqus doesn't really work for me on my admittedly ancient operating system.

Maybe we should think about ways we can grow this sub. Two things that immediately come to mind are:

  • Cross-posting content:

A cross-post feature such as they have on Reddit would help; following cross-posts was one of the ways I found the popular dissident subs there. It is more work, but it is easy enough to link within Saidit when posting outside this sub.

  • Shilling on other platforms:

Letting people know about Saidit in Reddit threads and in the comments threads on other websites such as Unz and Counter Currents as well as local Nationalist sites. Maybe if someone was knowledgable (and motivated) they could write a short guide to right-wing social media and publish it at Counter Currents

There is so much good content spread across Saidit, and you and other mods have worked so hard to produce a supportive environment, it would be a pity to see it go to waste.

Lastly what's happening with M7? I realize he is not happy with some of the content Saidit attracts but is there any way we can support this platform or otherwise show our appreciation for the work he undoubtedly puts in?

I know a lot of the crew likes saidit but we aren't reaching enough people here and saidt is going down for 3-5 days every month. That's not sustainable. Nobody want's to stay here more than I do (I've set up 4 subverses and made hundreds of posts.) However, we need to stay antifragile and move BEFORE things dry up.

Ruqqus doesn't really work for me on my admittedly ancient operating system.

That's a YOU thing. Don't make the community cater to your operating system issue.

Maybe we should think about ways we can grow this sub.

What's the point of growing the sub if the site itself is constantly crashing and unstable or not growing??

Cross-posting content:

Not sure why people keep reccomending that. Once we all move over to ruqqus then the sub will grow over there. Crossposting accross two DAR sub doesn't grow DAR. Crossposting into random subs does though so I encourage that.

Shilling on other platforms:

Letting people know about Saidit in Reddit threads and in the comments threads on other websites such as Unz and Counter Currents as well as local Nationalist sites.

YES. I strongly encourage this. I've been advocating it for 2 years but I feel like it's only me and maybe a dozen people that really do this.

There is so much good content spread across Saidit, and you and other mods have worked so hard to produce a supportive environment, it would be a pity to see it go to waste.

It's not going to go to waste if we move to ruqqus. It's going to just have a lull and then pick up as ruqqus establishes itself as the new DAR sub. I've had some solid convos with baste dissidents over on ruqqus. There are definitely some of /our guys/ and it might be worth the risk to switch.

There is so much good content

We can rebuild all that good content when the network gets reestablished. The people are what's important not the content. The content can be reposted. Valuable, articulate, and dedicate chads like yourself are not replaceable. I could give a fuck if we lose all the content. That's archived on local disks. The community is what matters.

Lastly what's happening with M7

Don't really care at this point. He's a fucking terrible admin. The fact that he wasn't posting daily updates when the site went down show's he's compromised or lazy or neglectful. I have almost zero faith in him to rebuild this community from the mistakes that have transpired over the last few months. /u/jasoncarswell is about the only guy I trust on this site right now.

is there any way we can support this platform or otherwise show our appreciation for the work he undoubtedly puts in?

Obviously he puts in work but how can you be so praiseworthy when he has mismanaged payment to the server for two months and also cypto hidden DAR from the feed? The guy is not our friend at all.

[–]JasonCarswellVoluntaryist 1 insightful - 2 fun1 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 2 fun -  (15 children)

I agree with all your points. I'm flattered by your faith in me, though I wish I had better news and results for you regarding new platforms. Also, there are others on this site who have earned my trust too, even if some I don't always agree with.

I've been trying but I'm just not an I.T. guy and I've put too much faith in Larry to lead when he's now become as open as M7. I understand depression profoundly, but that doesn't excuse the communication problem nor explain why after 2 months we still don't have a wiki or forum up.

I'm drafting up a post to essentially start over, lay out some goals, some options, some budgets, etc. The community can decide, even if it means they decide not to support any branching out from SaidIt so that I can be free to do something else instead of bang my head against tech walls for something no one wants.

cypto hidden DAR from the feed

What does that mean?

[–]send_nasty_stuffNational Socialist 2 insightful - 2 fun2 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 2 fun -  (14 children)

Debate Alt Right does not seem to show up properly in the new or hot feed of saidit despite having lots of upvotes and comments. It shows up on ruqqus just fine.

side note. Have you heard of the zeronet project?

[–]JasonCarswellVoluntaryist 1 insightful - 2 fun1 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 2 fun -  (13 children)

That is strange. Does DAR (duh, I didn't know what that was) show up in /s/all? If not then that may be your problem. Perhaps we should consult TAM?

Since 2016 I've had enough NameCoin to start a ZeroNet site. I even offered it to M7D3, but they didn't want tit.

I used to maintain this article: https://InfoGalactic.com/info/ZeroNet

An old post on a similar thing: /s/DecentralizeAllThings/comments/b3a/handshake_decentralized_certificate_authority_and/

I didn't know what that was) show up in /s/all

You can check it right now. Look at every post in s/all in the last two days. Look at how upvoted they are. Look how many comments. Now look at DAR. You'll see that at least two or three posts probably should have showed up in the s/all. DAR has lots of activity and should show up on s/all but it doesn't.

If not then that may be your problem.

We've been aware that we are blocked from the feed for awhile. There aren't many reddit clones as big as saidit though so we don't have a lot of places we can move to.

Perhaps we should consult TAM?

He's probably already aware of it but if you think that he isn't and would support us getting back into the feed I'm all for it.

I used to maintain this article: https://InfoGalactic.com/info/ZeroNet

Awesome. So do you think it has a future? I have yet to play around with it. Does the zeronet network have a reddit clone? Would making one on that network be viable? Would it be resistant to server take-downs or payment rejections from bad actors?

If it's not in /s/all then DAR was probably isolated from dominating the front page, just as /s/IronLeft was. That's not by accident. M7, others, and even myself don't want SaidIt to be dominated by any sub or faction, left nor right. However, I also don't think you need to be endlessly punished, especially if all the traffic is down, both in SaidIt general and/or on DAR. Ideally there would have been some community discussion and a general consensus then someone to code into a front-page max-limit (ie. 4 max) to avoid drowning out other feeds. This max-limit would have been useful under the LXXX spam with ads and Panzer's posts.

Also check:

/s/DebateAltRight/about/edit/ > other options > ◘ allow this sub to be included in /s/all as well as the default and trending lists

/u/TheAmeliaMay, can you confirm or deny that DAR (/s/DebateAltRight) is not allowed on /s/all?

Moving is a last resort.

First, I'm only theoretically aware of it. I haven't dived in nor set up my own domain on ZeroNet - yet. Like other alternatives to the Internet there are pros and cons - including the fact that most people are not motivated to change, until it's too late if at all. I don't know enough about ZeroNet nor Reddit options there. Larry and I wanted to embrace all the alternative protocols with our decentralized network, but it was not an immediate top priority. I am enthusiastic about all of this but have zero ability to code anything. Just like some geeks love animation but couldn't do it to save their lives. "I have a very specific set of skills..."

To my knowledge, yes, ZeroNet is vastly more secure and stable than the Internet - including permanent addresses (instead of the annual rape of domain name fees).

payment rejections

I'm not sure that was the case. I was told by the other co-founder who I trust that M7 forgot to pay the bill.

Not all browsers are ZeroNet-ready, but I feel quite sure there are addons for most if not all browsers.

On the subject of Panzer: did you notice he deleted his account again? RIP.

[–]JasonCarswellVoluntaryist 1 insightful - 2 fun1 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 2 fun -  (2 children)

Dang, no. I wanted to pick his brains about platforms and such. I meant to but didn't get to it. Especially the indie-universal login thing I saw a few months back.

Strange that LXXX is gone too.

Did that. It's listed as public.

/s/DebateAltRight/about/edit/ > other options > ◘ allow this sub to be included in /s/all as well as the default and trending lists

Ok. This was NOT checked but when I started the sub I believe it was. Could this have been unchecked by admin or only mods?

Interesting. I might just start playing around with it.

Seems like if zeronet wants to grow it will need to tackle this.

That's the only explanation.

Really it's up to the users.
