I think it is a quite interesting plot. Actually in my opinion it is the most interesting plot, that I've seen. I forgot the source but I guess it is possible to recover from perhaps eurogenes blog or something like this.

Really interesting. I had no idea Neanderthal's and Denisovians were so separate from us.

Incidentally I have always wondered, ethical considerations aside, if it would be possible to breed back to a more genetically pure Neanderthal stock or if some chimp / human hybrid could be produced. I realize in the chimp case chromosome counts are different but could one produce a chimera?

I have heard different stories, so I wouldn't be able to say. Some says that we carry 100% of neanderthal dna amongst us, I have also heard of 20% in all of us together. I think it would take many generations to breed back a pure Neanderthal naturally, but with genetherapy we can probably do it within the next 10-20 years? If we know the genes.
