The typical answer to that is created by God (i.e. magic) vs. evolving from elements.

As a Christian I tend to look at biology as having some kind of telos. It has a purpose and the purpose was a sentient being. It doesn't look to me that genes changing is an adequate explanation for where we are -- although that isn't to say mutation doesn't occur. For me the purpose of biology was for it to become sentient and that was why it was created by God. We're the result.

That's just my personal opinion though and how I've reconciled -- even though I don't like that term and don't really think it needs reconciling with any theological belief tbh-- the two ideas.

Would you say you're a cosmotheist?

No but I do have sympathy for the ideas and obviously my own view of biology overlaps with theirs from what I understand. I'm not super well versed on it though however I've known a few intelligent Cosmotheists and had good conversations with them.

I have pretty mixed feelings and thoughts regarding Christianity. I can't deny the important and significant sociocultural influences it has had, but then trying to reconcile that it is foreign to Europeans is troubling. It kind of tethers us in a way that is harmful imo.

Read an article recently about the perversion of the Church as well.

I not well read enough on these matters and I'm not entirely sure it would be worth the effort. Seems like it ends up like a "No True Scotsman" situation, hence my taking the path of least resistance and tending to mostly avoid it altogether.
