Africa would suffer mass starvation and return to the stone age within 50 years.

Who cares?

Their population has been inflated beyond the carrying capacity of the unimproved land that they inhabit. Whitey's food and medical aid have allowed them to grow beyond that sustainable level.

They managed to be fairly equal to medieval Europe in patches.

Iron age is more realistic.

Most of sub saharan Africa hadn't even discovered the wheel by 1800, not even a written alphabet. Rome 2000 years ago was unironically more advanced than large swathes of Africa today.

Rome 2000 years ago was unironically more advanced than large swathes of Africa today.

It took 19th century London to have a city with a bigger population than ancient Rome - the city - at the peak of its power, and it took 1930s America to have a society with cleaner drinking water.
