As much as “free love” was touted, women never intended to give away sex for free. So what we end up with is a situation where women practicing birth control use men as emotional, and often financial, slaves.

Virtually every couple I've known that cohabits splits bills pretty evenly.

What's amusing me us that in cohabiting couples men do less than half of the household tasks, and simply living with a woman increases his life span and decreases hers.

So feel free to fuck off and not bother us.

This seems questionable.

Yeah, that paper puts life insurance down as a major player.

Paul Dolan, LSE:

[Men calm down], take less risks, earn more money at work, and live a little longer. [Women], on the other hand, has to put up with that, and dies sooner than if she never married. The healthiest and happiest population subgroup are women who never married or had children."

Friedman found the same thing.

Also: Marriage helps husbands to an extra 1.7 years, but it knocks 1.4 years off the average wife's lifespan.

Two potential issues I notice right away:

  • They're only looking at people who are already 65 years old or above (in Switzerland, during two years)

  • They define "married couple" so as to include divorcees and widows/widowers
