I agree with you that IQ alone isn't adequate, but it is still necessary. You've just identified other necessary components.

Population size is an important piece of this. Presently our populations are so large that having those high IQ people isn't as big of a deal.

With a sufficiently large population you end up with sufficient number of people beyond whatever IQ cut-off is required to keep the cogs of our civilization in motion.

As demographics shift and affirmative action policies continue to proliferate, the problems of mismatching people and occupations will only worsen.

As an example, I recall some counties not having enough minority officers because they couldn't pass the tests, so they lowered the bar. So now the government has enacted dysgenic policies to give people that were previously deemed too dumb firearms, authority, and insulation from consequences. If police records with this information are publicly available, any associations between these scores and instances of police misconduct will make for interesting headlines.
