Russia has great potential, but Putin is too much of a limp wristed liberal to exploit it, and the Russian oligarchy is full of corrupt dual-citizens. If Russia can fix its demographic problems by raising birth rates of slavs, reuniting Ukraine and Belarus into its orbit, I see great potential for it.

If it gets to a stage where it hosts 200–300 million whites(mostly slavs) and manages to implement eugenic birth policies, there’s no reason why it can’t become a world power. It is human capital and the quality of the population that makes or breaks a country. Super smart Switzerland with 7 million people will never be a serious power, neither will Nigeria with 500 million Nigerians.

Another issue for them would be to solve the problem of Russia’s technological backwardness. Russia severely lags behind in the use of industrial robots, nearly non-existent when it comes to research on AI and Genetics, the two fields that will decide the fate of the human species for the next millennium, and is decades behind the west in materials technology.

One example would be fighter jets. Russian jets like the su-27 only have 3000 hours of service life, in contrast, the F-16 built 6 years earlier has 8000 hours! Russian aircraft are also far less stealthy, and they lack a sophisticated microelectronics and computer industry.

And this technological inferiority translates into military inferiority over time. Russia still only has 10 combat aircraft(Su-57) with a first generation AESA radar. The US has well over a thousand aircraft with third generation AESA radars. Then there’s the lack of targeting pods and sensor fusion. Though the SU-57 addresses these issues to a degree.

State power at the end of the day is a function of military and economic power, which in turn are dependent on technology. Saudi Arabia sits atop an ocean of money and yet they have never developed a single aircraft, submarine or any technology ever. The students at their elite KAUST university are almost all East Asians or Indians. Even the oil is dug up by Chinese and Western engineers and technicians.

Thus, despite its vast wealth, its effectively a financial and military satellite of the US. Technology, military and economic power in turn is directly a function of human capital, where institutions act as a force multiplier. A country with shitty institutions and high human capital can still achieve marvels. Look at North Korea, a Stalinist slave state sanctioned by the world. Yet it can build its own nuclear weapons, ballistic missiles, skyscrapers, tanks and submarines.

In contrast, you can take a country like Congo which until the 19th century hadn’t even discovered the wheel. Yet, the Belgians in the 60s left them with the best railways in Africa, modern universities, medicine and administration system. Well, its simply returned to its natural state of destitution and civil war within a few decades. It has never developed any of the things north Korea has.

Human capital in turn is, H.C = (Average intelligence and conscientiousness) x Population size x rate of modern education.

Population size is key when the gulf in intelligence is similar. Sweden even back in the 19th century and today, boasted a greater average intelligence and far superior education environment compared to Russia. Yet, it was Russia that rose to become a world power that dominated the bulk of Eurasia for two centuries.

That was because whereas Sweden had a mere 5 million or so Swedes, Russia had 140 million or so Slavs. Sweden for all its clean streets, sexy blondes and superb welfare state, could never deploy an army of millions and conquer continents, nor could it boast an economy around which dozens of countries revolved around. I apologize for going off an a tangent about national power, but the challenges before Russia are daunting. Raising the birth rate in a country with female liberation is a nigh impossible task. In Putin’s defense, he has allocated a lot of money and energy towards the goal, and has achieved some modest but non-linear gains.

Modern women don’t want children, they want social media clout, the attention and resources of powerful men, sex and commitment from alpha males who have no incentive to provide the latter, and worship from an army of beta males.

The only road to high fertility is having a religious patriarchal society like Iraq, or having large fundamentalist religious communities that have loads of kids, like Israel and the Haredi who have 6 kids per woman. Solving the technological issue means stopping brain drain, having good salaries to keep talent in, investing heavily in research equipment and machinery, and incentivizing industrial competition.

Most of the Russian economy is in the hands of a few oligarchs, Putin’s homies from the old days if you will. So innovation is hard to be found. However, there are some strides being made. Russia is moving to import substitution and increasing the salary of academics. So, military and economic desperation could ultimately wake Russia up from its technological slumber.

If the human capital issue is fixed, it will only be a matter of time.

Then we come to America. One could write a book about how America is declining on every front but i’ll try to make it short. Its human capital is eroding fast as its rushing towards the demographics of Venezeula. And the demographics of Venezuela will produce a society like Venezuela as well.

The top 1% own more than 40% of the wealth, the next 9% own another 40%, and the remaining 90% own merely 20% of the wealth. 40% of Americans couldn’t pay a 1000 dollar emergency and 70% live check to check.

Without government assistance, 30 million Americans could face eviction within a few months. Student debt is over a trillion dollars, national debt is 27 trillion dollars and 135% of the GDP and unfunded liabilities are over 90 trillion dollars.
