I would say the internet has actually undermined the ability to organize. It has created far more of a mob driven culture and everyone is distracted by the spectacle of the culture war that they mostly experience through social media. Previously you would need quality leaders and organization in order for any type of movement to exist in the first place, internet communities don't need that.
