Nuance here is very important.

First of all there's this:

In all countries, Gallup finds that people place conditions on their responses. Some percentage of the population in every country says "it depends." But in some places, who these migrants are may factor more heavily into whether they are accepted. For example, in Russia, where the index score is among the lowest in the world, more than 40% of residents say "it depends" to each of the questions.

I'm the same way. I don't care that much about other Europeans migrating to Belgium, but I do care a lot about migration from Africa or the Middle East.

Then there's this:

People born in Poland were the largest group of immigrants in 2019, as in previous years. They numbered 19,172, or 38.1 percent of the total immigrant population. Second most numerous were people born in Lithuania (2,884), followed by those born in the Philippines (1,968).

Looks like Iceland isn't really being swamped with Africans or Arabs like Sweden. Thank goodness!

I was expecting something surprising, but it seems like the biggest factor when it comes to acceptance of immigration amongst Europeans still seems to be if your country was under the influence of liberal capitalism or communism thirty years ago. It's also interesting that among the western countries - disregarding soulless economic zones like Iceland and New Zealand - the top spots are occupied by states politically obsessed with social justice, be it Ireland (in regards to identity) or the Nordic countries and the Netherlands (in regards to their social focus and consensus cultures). Seeing Germany rank higher than the UK and Italy higher than France, however, is definitely odd.

The wrong side really won the Cold War, unironically.

This data is mostly from 2016 though. I actually doubt Sweden is still in the top 10 today.

Doesn't surprise me at all to be honest. Germany has always been more hostile towards immigration than the UK, and the big African migrant wave in Italy was post-2016. Italy has now become very racist, which is good of course.

The timing would explain Italy then, but I'm still not sure about Germany. I also expected that they would be more opposed to immigration than the UK, but the data seems to contradict that.

Germany and France used to be pretty high up there, but ever since 2015, acceptance has been plummeting. Also, I'm quite surprised to see Nigeria, Rwanda, Mali, etc and other African countries so high up on the list. I always assumed Africans were the most xenophobic.

No, East Asians are.

This is a poll of the people. Which is in no way represents the country actually taking in migrants.
