They blocked this sub and several of our sister subs from appearing in the s/new feed.

Wow, when did this happen? Is there a post about this somewhere? Was there a reason given?

[–]send_nasty_stuffNational Socialist 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (12 children)

It happened a few months ago and without notification or warning to mods. No reason was given until I pressed magnora7 a few days ago about it. His answer was something like 'your sub brings down the pyramid of debate' which isn't true at all and is lazy cop out. I was worried that this pyramid of debate thing was going to be used like this.

I ended up checking the sub's mod log and I saw the mod action where he changed it there (along with a few other actions he apparently took). Was there already a post about what happened that I missed? Or do you have a link to the convo where you discussed it with him? (Or, if it was a dm, would it be ok to publish it?) I think it's important for people to be able to see how the admin is handling this.

Wow. I'm in shock after looking at this. Am I interpreting this wrong? Is magnora7 going into DAR and making mod decisions for us?? Is that what I'm seeing here? How is this allowed? If this is true I can't imagine any mod would really want to devote their time to set up and moderate communities here on saidit. Why would they if admin is just going to sneak in and undermine the authority of the community? And without any due process or notification? WTF?

Was there already a post about what happened that I missed?

I'm really not sure. I do know that Salo2000 guy had another account that was banned and that's his sockpuppert. Not sure why magnora would unmute him. As mods we should have the right to mute people. Especially ones that are breaking our rules.

Am I misinterpreting what's going on here?

Totally agree. Thanks for bringing this to our attention. I will get with my fellow mods and we will chat about this.

We are going to stay on saidit for now and experiment with ruqqus. If we do make a full move to ruqqus we will pin a post about it. Do you have any thoughts about saidit or ruqqus? We don't want to move everything over to ruqqus and then run into problems over there as well so we are just playing it slow right now.

      moving will cost users.

Agreed which is why we haven't fully moved yet. We already lost a lot of users from the reddit move and I don't want to lose more.

For now Ruqqus will act as a safety net the same way saidit was a safety net for reddit. Always hedge.

Magnora7 isn't going to ban this sub. It will stay here for good. I think when they get more users this sub will be back on /r/All. I apprecaite the stuff you post.

      Peace.

I don't know about that. I wa sbanned on thedonald for simply asking wuestions about Israel and Zionism. I think you are allowed to ban people if they spam, post stuff that is irrelevant, basically spam, and those who spew ad hominems. I don't see that much here but this basically allows less censorship in the end. Reddit sucked because it allowed mods to ban anyone for anything.

It might sound strange but giving mods more power in fact creates more open speech. If mods are abusing their power then new communities will spring up that have a more fair approach to moderating and if users like the new community they will migrate. It's when admin meddles and favors communities or favors particular mods that problems brew.

Not if mods are anti-free speech. Saidit already had a host of infiltrators come in and ban users for no reason. I think a non-partisan admin who promises not to censor based loosely the pyramid of debate is far better than having mods banning people left and right. It wasn't admins banning me initially from reddit, it was mods shadowbanning 90% of my comments.

I think we need a strong admin that understands objectiveness amd freedom of speech.

Not if mods are anti-free speech.

Free speech is a political principle and doesn't perfectly apply to online communities. Online spaces are inundated by subversives and bad actors that if given free reign push out genuine voices. Think of online communities are private property with feudal lords. If you don't like your local fiefdom you can migrate and startup your own covenant. If kings (admin) overstep their power and favor certain landlords it creates an environment where there are no new pastures for dissidents to establish dominion over.

I think a non-partisan admin who promises not to censor based loosely the pyramid of debate is far better than having mods banning people left and right.

Mods banning people left and right only becomes a problem when admin prevents new sub formation. New subs can quickly grow and displace old subs that are tyrannical.
