And no, ecological or some sort of civilizational collapse isn't happening.

Yes, it will. It was 45C in the Arctic circle last week. What we're seeing over there wasn't predicted for another 70 years based on the worst case scenario. Just think about that for a minute...

Yes there are occassional spikes here and there. Plus the effects of climate change take centuries to play out. The elite can easily adapt to it.

They're not occasional spikes, and collapse won't take centuries. It will take a few decades at most. Civilization is still at its core the ability to store and distribute grains at scale. All of our technology hasn't changed that. Massive crop failures are coming. It will create chaos all over the world. That's how it will start. This deification of the elite is so ridiculous. They don't have as much control as you think they do.

Don't you think that the collapse is just wishful thinking (a cope)? I think probably as much as you do that a total collapse of the system would be good for us long-term and good for the planet at large - the elites getting what's coming to them, the technological system collapsing under its own weight, natural order and balance returning to the world - but I can't help feeling that it's a little voice in the back of my head wishing it to be so, instead of the Piss Earth hellscape that we're more likely to find ourselves in. Are there futurologists taking seriously predictions of collapse? What odds do they give?

Collapse would be good but unlikely even if someone intentionally tried to accelerate it.

The corona-chan debacle shows that the system is far more redundant and resilient than it seems.

Anything short of an electromagnetic event frying every gizmo wouldn’t cause a collapse. And even then the military could attempt to put everything back together.

Ultimately, catastrophe mainly removes mouths to feed.

Anyone who stayed at home doing nothing for months could have died and nothing would have really changed.

No, because I'm also advocating political action.

Are there futurologists taking seriously predictions of collapse?

No, because they're all high on hopium.
