Shadowbanning on Reddit

My account on Reddit is not visible. My posts appear deleted. To my knowledge, I have not once posted anything rule-breaking or had a single post deleted. I have no idea what has caused this.

I'm terrified. How many more people are shadowbanned this way? I knew people got banned for trivial stuff but this is another level of deception. What the hell is going on?

If you've been shadowbanned on Reddit, chances are what happened is you were convicted of wrongthink by moderators or administrators who didn't deem it necessary to let you speak in your defense.
As for how many others have been given this sort of treatment? Who knows.

I have two thoughts reading this.

  • Someone shadowbanned you for something you did. You not only were not informed you committed a crime, you were judged and sentenced without any opportunity for defense. The technology industry has a need for some kind of due process system to prevent this.

  • I hope you're not terrified. Can't you just make a new account (as annoying as that is) and use that instead ?

I'm terrified because of the implication for society. How manipulated is the discourse in this current era? How many people don't even know the extent of it?

Absolutely, all the things I was worried about years ago. Shadowbanning of users, vote manipulation, astroturfing, outright bans, selective enforcement of rules, random enforcement of rules, biased rules to begin with. All of this to help leftist causes exclusively.

well, there are lefties who get pushed out too I think for being contrary to their narrative or agenda

I meant though, maybe your account was shadowbanned using their new stuff that works on vote behavior. I forgot exactly how they said it would work, but there are supposed to be disciplinary actions now taken against accounts that upvote content that is later removed, even if they never post rule-breaking content themselves.

this may be a somewhat hostile platform, btw, if you aren't aware. it's nice not having to pay reddit with ads if I want to read this sub if people are coming here now, but the ground here may be a little shaky to really build a new home on if there are other realistic options available. although saidit does seem to have been resilient to ddos attacks so far and it has a usable interface.

    I got in contact with a reddit administrator and inquired if my account was banned. [...] we had a nice chat and they unbanned me.

    I don't see that happening anymore.

    I don't think is was DAR mods. It was probably reddit admin themselves or their 'safety squad'. Welcome to the club. Many of use have been shadowbanned or outright banned multiple times all over social media even when we were being very tactful with our speech. It's just part of being a dissident. Don't let it get to you. Become anti-fragile.

    Best way to avoid shadow bans is to avoid Reddit. It's gay.

    they just ban whoever they want too. it isnt moderation its discrimination.
