This is 100% the most dangerous thing to ever threaten freedom! For real, god help us if people fall for this trap!

Get ready for your slavery

Yep, not surprised. Next is a social credit system. Infuriate the wrong trans person or politician? Lose access to your fake e-money.

I am telling you guys, get off of social media. The CCP seems to ding people for posting sensitive or controversial things on social media more than anything else. Just get off of everything.

I think we should switch other payment systems, like Gab, and go back to silver/gold transactions.

I currently sell on Craigslist and I offer a discount for silver payments. They can't control that.

I would like to know about the silver payments as well!

That's fascinating. How does that even work?

[–]Alphix 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (3 children)

No, the CBDC IS the social credit system. You said things we don't like, so we removed your ability to use those bits.

I suspect they'll soon make it illegal to have a major social media account anonymously. Everything must link up to your actual ID.

Hell, maybe. I remember the first time I heard about Facebook, my jaw hit the floor when I saw people used their REAL LIFE NAME on that site.

[–]tiny-brown-mug 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Yep, I remember. Back then, the equivalent of social media was discussion forums and maybe MySpace, and no one ever used their real names on there. You'd have to be mad!

"Oh, hi, I'm Joe Scarelli of 1234 Wisenheimer Place, Somewhere, New Jersey, and here are all my creepy drawings, racist ramblings, and disconcertingly specific diagrams and stuff! Have fun with this, FBI!"

Do you think we will be safe here?

[–]tiny-brown-mug 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (5 children)

As far as the safety of the site, I'm encouraged by the username-password-that's it format. No e-mail, no identifiers. It seems that people get into trouble when accounts linked back to their own identity are picked up as having posted something "wrong think", and then the unofficial social credit system known as "social media plus media outrage" kicks in.

I think this site is pretty safe. It's even safer as it's anonymous. Just be careful, don't doxx yourself, and things should be alright. I would also urge people to use this website from a laptop or desktop computer instead of their smartphone. I own a smartphone, but I'm still a bit paranoid over them.

A Linux smartphone is the only smart choice.

Edit : Librem5 is a likely scam. Won't recommend them.

Yes, Pinephone is where it's at! Open source, no backdoors, full control.

I just want to learn some Linux first. Sigh.

I am excited for CBDC's! They will be very cool, with features like time-restrictions on money and other really awesome stuff. Congratulations to everyone involved, this is a wonderful time to be witnessing!

Are you joking?

I think the FTX situation has really made it clear that regulation will never be a good path forward. With the core ethos of bitcoin really broken, now is a great time for Central Banks to introduce their competitive products and gain an advantage faster than they would have, say, in 2015.

Either it will give the US a final stranglehold on the world or it will hasten the demise of the greenback as the global currency.

[–]Alphix 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

It's being implemented BECAUSE of the demise of the USD. Every other central bank worldwide is doing the same thing, because their fiat is also falling apart.

Tell all businesses that you interact with: If you accept any type of centralized digital dollar I will be avoiding you.

I posted about NY's Regulated Liability Network (RLN) pilot program, and comment an analysis of how I don't believe there is any blockchain or crypto concepts or features involved...aside from purposeful naming and hand-waving.

It's just an AWS cloud database, where there is no real verification and all users of the system must be permission-ed. There's no real purpose for saving the transactions into an immutable chain signing each previous, that I can tell, as they are all collected and ordered by a single authoritative system. It skips even decentralized timing benefits of a blockchain, from what I can tell. On the plus side, they may be finally entering the modern era of using public/private key encryption, so there's that...
