This family has maybe been bad neighbors and now their neighbors are using zoning law to try to get them removed from their property. They may dragging their feet getting their house rebuilt. On the other hand, their neighbor may want to buy their land and they won't sell, so said neighbor is using this as payback. I've seen both scenarios.

It's difficult to imagine they're dragging their feet. According to the article the house burned down in May.

I knew a family whose house burned down and was doing demo work within 2 months. It only took a little longer to start rebuilding because they had to hire a general contractor, go over floor plans, and get the insurance and bank to approve. The insurance paid them to rent a house nearby.

A sample of one isn't typically generalised.

I don't know the background details on this story. I don't think any of us do. I'm not going to hunt for reasons to criticise these people.

I have more experience with this kind of thing, but yes, that was one example I provided. I am sympathetic to anyone who is told what they can or can not do on their own property if they are not hurting anyone, even though this is an opinion piece only giving part of one side of the story. The fact that the zoning authority stepped in on behalf of a complaint, says that there is another side we haven't heard in this article. If there has been a complaint filed against them, then either they have been a problem to the community or the complainant is being a jerk to their neighbors. In my experience, if there is an order to remove that camper after 5 months and after a public hearing, then there is reason to believe that the family has done something wrong.
