I still give them money. If you're living in the street, by choice or not, sometimes you want a beer.

I gave out a buck this morning for the first time in forever. I've never been approached in the town I live in now, the guy was begging hard and mentioning the cold, so I gave him a buck.

When I lived in a bigger city where you're asked for money multiple times a day, I never gave out money. It's also easier to just keep walking in a busy city and not acknowledge them, as opposed to this morning at a gas station with no one else around the guy's sort of following and walking up to me in the parking lot. At that point, half of it's less sympathy and more giving a buck to end this interaction.
