I've never understood the attraction some people feel for Twatter.

the fact that you can only post short tiny messages is so off putting. It is for the dumbest, lowest common denominator. I remember blogging and writing long essays on topics, sure I wasted time on the internet but at least there was interesting content to create and read others thoughts. That has died out. Race to the bottom going on.

Short message. Offputting. Only 4 dumb. Essays long is better. Died out. To the Bottom.

I'm going to take this as a compliment since you seem to want more, so thanks. Always leave them wanting more is not exactly my motto but it is good advice for writers and commenters I think. Brevity is the soul of wit. KISS: keep it simple stupid or keep it short and simple. In his Elements of Style E.B. White emphasized the importance of saying what you have to say without belaboring the point or resorting to unnecessarily flowery language and his advice for writers in that thin book has stood the test of time, well, almost a hundred years.

If upvotes on social media is any sort of guide, and it shouldn't be, I've noticed that the amount of effort I put into a post or comment is almost inversely proportional to the upvotes given.

I haven't been talking about saidit specifically but now I will: until recently saidit has had a fairly small membership so it was high context, that is, most everyone knew the others, where they were coming from, what they were referring to, etc. Now with more members, way more, the context is lower. I do not mean that low context is necessarily negative. Not at all. Maybe I should be more expansive sometimes and will keep it in mind but can't promise anything. I do appreciate the feedback though so thanks again.

Have you noticed that not having a downvote button seems to make everything smoother? That was the result of good planning on the part of our benevolent overlords. It would have been easy to dismiss your comment with one click on other social media but instead of doing that, I thought about it and found something to say that I hope was positive and constructive. It was for me anyway.

I am fine with a short message to a degree, sometimes I do want to just respond with like one sentence. Quick and to the point. Other times though I have more thoughts I want to express. I did try using twitter years ago and what kept happening was I went over the limit without realizing and it was annoying so I did the thing where you cut and paste and continue on in a new message. And many people do that as well, or they post a long paragraph as a pic. Why not just allow longer messages. It was annoying to me so I stopped using it.

Dang, you must have a lot of published books and short stories out there?! How awesome of you to devote your time to free of charge discussion online when you could be paid so much money for that interesting, educational and extensive content otherwise.

Yeah I agree. I did reddit for 12 years, facebook for 4 years, but twitter was entertaining for about a year, if that. I never understood why people appear to like it so much. The sorting and browsing tools on twitter have always felt extremely clumsy to me as well, compared to other sites.

It is where trolls meet trolls and npcs copy npcs.
