My story: There were two stoplights, the intersection was odd because the street on the left did not line up with the street on the right. So the lights were green and just as I got under the first one, they turned yellow. Before I got to the second light, it turned red. LESS than 3 seconds. I got the ticket in the mail, it was over four hundred dollars. I went back to the location, took pictures of one light being red while the other was still yellow. The police went by the video camera, my ticket was over four hundred dollars. I looked up the state law regarding fines, it was illegal to charge more than fifty dollars for running a red light. I was told the difference was for administrative costs and was ok'd by the legislature. (CA)

Fuck California laws.

They should itemize the costs by infraction.

My friend caught this same thing happening in his city, fought his mom's ticket and got them to increase the yellow timing. They were violating their own guidelines for the timing on that light of course.

JUST SAY NO

I think lobbyists from tech companies talk cities into this, and once they get 1 month of increased revenue, there's no going back. The tech companies have very slick sales pitches- costs you nothing, we'll do all the work, it makes your city safer, etc. etc.

And they're all connected to the Military Industrial Complex, so this is the militarization of cities, like the militarization of police.

I got a red light ticket a few years back... $550 or so, and it costs more for poor people who need a payment plan! I was mad, but it was justly my own fault and the yellow was plenty long, so I didn't try to fight it.

Why the city thinks that much money is an appropriate punishment though, that's the question.

Oh, that'd be a dirty trick, random times for the lights. I think it's all about generating revenue for the city, which is a perversion of criminal justice.

I want IRC back too.. maybe I'll get around to it this weekend. These new features sneaking in like sub muting were not part of the plan.

Yet I cannot bow low enough, or enough times, in gratitude for the bounty that is Mute Sub. My whole experience of Saiddit is expanded and uplifted and I thank you for making this happen.
