As a Cuban Jew, I typically operate from the Hindu perspective. In the Hindu tradition, the concept essentially know as nihilism essentially exists within a specific subset of our many lives. There is the part where we must work actively to lower our own ego and precedes that. It follows the period where we do not wish death but do not see others as an equal participant in life.
