Because of attorcity propaganda. And schema in perception management. It is hard to erase this sort of belief from your mind, even when faced w/ conflicting and impossible narratives.

Because corporate America has beaten critical thinking skills out of the general public's consciousness.

Most people assume that the news is mostly true, and they don't spend time to look into the details.

Regardless of your opinion on Trump, he should be credited with the reemergence of the concept of "fake news" as a mainstream concept, and as a very real occurrence.

People have been working on this for decades, but he made it happen.
