Maybe, but this presupposes guilt. He's broken no law.

It's not illegal to publish anything as a journalist.

He published outside or the US, so there's no jurisdiction.

Case closed.

He's alive because he has a dead mans switch (variation), and no one knows what he's got.

I wouldn't say it is "not illegal" just because he is a journalist. Tecnically he broke the "law" by exposing "Government's secrets". HOWEVER, law and ethics are not the same. What he did was legally wrong but ethically right. If any harm comes to someone that exposed Government's dark side, it would be legitimate tyranny.

I still don't see where you've identified an illegal action.

It's illegal for govt officials with security clearances to leak classified info, but but for journalists. Journalists can publish anything.
They may be sued for libel (for publishing inaccurate info), but that is a separate issue.
This is a 1st amendment press-freedom right.

#1 of 10 in the Bill of Rights.

I'm not completely familiar with American press rights and I hope I am wrong in assuming he will be charged for publishing said confidential information. On the other hand, I'm surprised that the media has not pressured enough about how it is a tyranny that a Government punished someone for exposing its dark secrets.

His actual journalism outed the media for the Toadies that they truly are. The media covers up the government crimes.
The media and government are in collusion.

I think the problem is that everything happens "under the rug" and there is no solid way to prove anything. Almost everything wrong is done in the name of something else as justification (like monitoring private details in the name of security). People are afraid to question such actions due to the fear of being labelled a conspiracy theorist. Being a conspiracy theorist is not so wrong. They are just skeptical and question the things they are being told rather than blindly accepting it.

This use to the legal definition of innocence. The courts are rarely interested in justice in the modern era.

I guess that varies from region to region

The legal corruption does.

The definition of innocence does not.
