even manslaughter though? 5 years in prison? He's a dumb actor, it's like handing a loaded gun to a child.

I don't think 5 years in prison would solve anything no.

But this is manslaughter, and I don't like the idea that the law treats movies stars differently than others

Involuntary manslaughter is covered under California Penal Code Section § 192(b), and basically occurs when a person kills another unintentionally.

In other words, it's when a person kills someone else, but they did not specifically intend to kill them, and did not kill in a manner that showed a total lack of respect for human life.

This sounds like a pretty accurate description of what happened to me, and a non-movie star would almost certainly be charged with and convicted of involuntary manslaughter in similar circumstances

If only it didn't, but there is a multi-tiered justice system, and he'll get off because people neither understand gun safety nor homicide charges (it's not just for when you mean to kill someone), and the wealthy only get charged if society is angry - we move too fast to stay angry about a topic anymore. How'd Uvalde turn out?

I used to live somewhere where a wealthy drunk doctor coming home from the country club hit a girl on a skateboard going home from her job and killed her (and knew it - he did some crazy suspect shit - cleaning his car at midnight after he found fatty tissue on it, wife went back to the scene, called his lawyer friend at midnight, then ran, etc.).

There was this huge trial with plenty of witnesses. He was acquitted because the lawyers claimed his expensive car was so nice and drove so smooth that he didn't know he "hit anything worth stopping for," let alone a girl he launched a hundred feet, and was therefore innocent.
