So they changed the date for the movie?

Well that’s my point! That speech announced our first invasion of Iraq by Bush Sr. Then 9/11/2001 happened and Bush Jr. used that as an excuse to invade Iraq for a second time. So the fact that that interview is on the TV while he is dating his check 9/11 is an outrageous coincidence. Big Lebowski came out in 98. I was floored the first time I noticed that coincidence. That’s a movie that gets better every time you watch it.

Okay, you've convinced me, I think the illuminati put this detail there. And yes indeed, I'm still discovering new things in the film. Like most films by the Coen brothers, it's a religious one. The Dude's fatal flaw is that he's unemployed and stagnant, that's why a minor loss (namely his rug) causes him so much pain and he's hurdled into such a crazy episode. God is present in this film, and he's disappointed in the Dude. It should really be seen in comparison with A Serious Man, with which it partially shares a soundtrack.
