Germs are real obviously, but this theory has some shortcomings.

Take for instance the Streptococcus bacterias. The bacteria that causes strep throat is present on everyone's skin, yet everyone does not have an active strep throat infection, even if they lick themselves. Also removal of the tonsils is done when people have recurring strep infections (Mine were removed at 10 after many recurring strep infections, and I never got it again).

While 'terrain theory' is considered debunked, and 'germ theory' proven, both of these theories are hundreds of years old. Germs are quite real, but focusing only on germs and completely ignoring how those germs interact with 'terrain' is fallacious

Removal of the tonsils has absolutely no justification in germ theory, and it fails to explain why some people exposed to streptococcus develop active infections and others do not

Completely agree, I think they were both right, and incomplete. Much like 'nature vs nurture' debates, I think humans have a tendency to look for a single explanation, even when trying to explain something with multiple factors
