when you are using sites like reddit and twitter and a few others, you should be aware that in the majority of cases you are communicating with aritificial intelligence software generated posts.

you might as well be chatting with an oven toaster.

Also, this is about real life, not reddit.

technically, reddit is what "real life" is for now.

Good point.

They may be the majority of accounts, but they're rarely intelligent enough to have a genuine conversation with you. There are subreddit and user simulator bots you can try out, which are funny but rarely convincing.

it took me two minutes of searching, and i found this:

https://www.frase.io/tools/ai-content-generator/

keep in mind that this is just a sample of what ai can do to generate a post..

1) enter a title

2) click generate.

you will see.

Yeah, that just copies snippets from existing texts and strings them together. I have seen those come up in search results a lot recently, they fool me there but once I see the full page it becomes completely obvious. It doesn't have the ability to have conscious conversations with real people and be believable. Even a single comment clearly doesn't understand what it's replying to.

In fact saidit has its own problems with one bot in particular, the so-called "Americans bot". At first glance it may come off as an awkward misunderstanding of the OP, but once you see its post history you can easily tell it's controlled by an algorithm. The user whom everyone knows operates it sometimes posts the same copypastas, but he is capable of having intelligent conversations with other users unlike his bot.

i have been writing code since 1983 and i am impressed with what even that bot can do..the one that i just posted the link to it...

it is just a guess on my part that there are "real" AI bots out there, but that they are kept on the cool and kept quiet.. also, elon musk has commented a few times that we are all gonna be surprised as to what AI can do.

probably the general public(like me) has no clue what AI is capable of doing..

i suspect that the real AI bots could post just like you do and i would be none the wiser.

In the future probably, but we're not there yet.

[–]chickenz 2 insightful - 2 fun2 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 2 fun -  (0 children)

as you insist, but it is usually unwise to assume that the competition is at the same level that we are at...

elon musk warned about the power of the modern AI, and i think that if anyone could have inside knowledge of what is really going on, it is probably elon musk. His money would attract AI developers to show him what they got.

Here's what I got for the title Lose Weight Fast:

  1. Eat More Fat

Fat is the best way to lose weight fast. You need fat to live. If you don't eat enough fat, you'll start losing muscle mass instead of fat. Muscle burns calories at a much higher rate than fat does. So if you're trying to lose weight, make sure you get plenty of protein and fat.

  1. Drink Water

Drinking water helps you feel full longer and keeps your body hydrated. When you drink enough water, you won't have any cravings for sugary foods. And when you stay well-hydrated, you'll have more energy throughout the day.

  1. Get Enough Sleep

Sleep is essential for maintaining good health. Getting adequate sleep each night can help you burn fat faster. In fact, people who get less than five hours of sleep per night tend to gain more belly fat than those who get seven or more hours of shut eye.

  1. Exercise Regularly

Exercise is great for burning calories and keeping your heart strong. But it's even more effective when combined with a low-calorie diet. Studies show that regular exercise reduces your risk of diabetes, high blood pressure, stroke, some cancers, and arthritis.

  1. Avoid Alcohol

Alcohol can cause you to crave fatty foods, especially after drinking. Plus, alcohol slows down your metabolism, making it harder to lose weight.

  1. Don't Skip Meals

When you skip meals, your body goes into starvation mode. Your brain tells your stomach to stop eating, and your body starts storing food as fuel rather than using it for energy. Skipping meals causes your body to release hormones that slow down your metabolism and increase hunger levels.

  1. Keep Snacks Simple

Snacking between meals isn't necessary. Instead, try eating small, frequent meals throughout the day. That way, you'll keep your metabolism going and avoid overeating.

(Note that the AI did not number the points. Each point is #1.)

I got a similar result, it seems to be programmed to make those itemized lists.

My thinking is that it seems to do a pretty decent job of forming a post, and if that is what a website demo can do, then what is being done for real real at these mainstream sites like Reddit and Twitter and Facebook?

Bots can be used to dominate the narrative and can also be used to artificially inflate the site's traffic numbers to their advertisers AND can be used to scam Mr Elon musk out of $44,000,000,000.00!!!

Hint: intentionally inflating and misrepresenting numbers to advertisers, Elon musk, etc, would perhaps constitute a criminal fraud case, tho I am definitely not perry mason

I sure hope he doesn't buy that heap of garbage Twitter... That would probably be the biggest boneheaded move in the history of the dot cons.

Yes, I meant to write DOT CONS.

It is my suspicion that it is possible that even the entire SAIDIT site could be an AI experiment and I have been sitting here chatting with a software program for more than two years.

Keep in mind that it took me less than two minutes to find that AI demo website using Google.. now imagine what would be possible if I were a PhD in languages and compsci?

It is quite important to reflect on things and oneself on a regular basis.

I suppose this is meant with "coincidences" and "connecting the dots" in this post.

Since this is reddit, both probably would get banned if they wrote more explicit.

[–]Canbot 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (3 children)

Noticing what? It's just a vague "muh invisible hand" post. Obviously some times there is an invisible hand, and other times coincidences are assumed to be an invisible hand. Unless you are giving specific examples of what happened it means nothing.

[–]Vulptex[S] 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (2 children)

A string of repeating very unlikely "coincidences" is probably not coincidental. But people use "coincidence" to explain away everything, even when it's absolutely ridiculous to do so. And if you disagree they shoot lasers out of their eyes at you.

[–]Canbot 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

Sometimes a random dice will roll the same number 30 times in a row. Some coincidences do happen over and over. It goes both ways. Sometimes real things get dismissed and some times coincidences get called conspiracies.

If you suspect a conspiracy you need more than potential coincidences. But the coincidences should be enough to convince a reasonable person to investigate further. The stupid people are the ones who refuse to consider possibilities that they don't immediately agree with.

And that's exactly what they do. Even generally calm, nice, and open-minded people become very aggressive when you question existence or the uprightness of the world and nature, or notice certain things which could potentially expose it.
