Another good film that depicts this is The Truman Show, where the main character points out the artificiality of the world, and then the person he's talking to goes back to her scripted lines as if she didn't even hear her. That's a similar thing people do IRL.

Switch is a minor character who was originally going to be a different gender in the matrix than the real world. That idea was scrapped though.

Good insight. However, It's something that's more in line with the "agent" characters. Smith, being something like an evil counterpart to Neo breaks free from the system himself and I think his ability to create copies of himself by corrupting others is symbolic of him corrupting people to the point of them becoming extensions of himself, kind of like the way a psychopath operates.

He is basically the "Evil Christ" to Neo's Jesus.

It's just that I don't think the Matrix neccesarily follows Christian views. There is a lot of symbolism trying to paint Neo as Christ and Smith as his anti-Christ but I'm not sure if that is the ultimate "meaning" behind their characters, It's mostly symbolism so It's hard to tell.
