The title of your post is a good rule for life. Never assume that anyone has your interests in mind. It's impossible. Their interests are their own, regardless even of whether they might wish otherwise. Their intentions don't enter into it, actually. Their interests are their own.

This is exactly why i define myself to be a humanist instead:

"A humanist is a human being who loves all other human beings except for the ones, he knows."

I think otherwise, nobody can be fully trusted. Therefore precautionary principle is a virtue.
