lineage os + rooted phone + fdroid + apkpure.com = near full experience

many apps use play store for purchase proof

i use all freeware apps or purchase directly from company.

nearly all will help you give them your money without p(l)aystore

I mostly just download mine from Usenet using my TRS-80 Model 6000 running Xenix.

You can actually type 'man' followed by the name of a command and the computer automatically shows you documentation. Don't need a book or anything.

like linux or bsd. But this i can respect very much for its reliability that it obviously proved.

I wanted to look into usenet again a long time ago, but it is always only so much time i have... which is a lot less than stuff i have interests in.

Sadly i gotta do a lot of interfaces between front-end and back-end at this vicinity in time but i'll surely put usenet on one of my to-do-lists.
