That's roughly 7 people per year. To put that in perspective, around 150 people per year are killed by coconuts, champagne corks kill 20 per year and falling vending machines kill 2 per year. The media love to glorify the dramatic story over the mundane.

Exactly, these 'assault rifle' bans are just posturing for optics, it would have no measurable effect on shooting deaths, but would severely hinder the ability to form an effective militia against a tyrannical government as the founders intended.
