If the Russkies had this guy his face would be all over the place, along with whatever ID he was carrying.

If he was there, he wouldn't be carrying I.D. As he's not supposed to be there. Nor do you negotiate via press release on black ops.

If it is actually the case that U.S. (and Canadian) senior military personnel were operating in Azovstal with the Azov battallion, then that is undeclared hot war of these nations (and therefore, I guess, NATO) on Russia. In such a case, Russia is going to keep the information tightly controlled and use it if necessary to justify whatever counterattack on the West they feel they need to perform. My best guess is, Putin will nuke the UK into oblivion and offer NATO unconditional surrender.

And if the response is not immediate and affirmative, the rest of the West gets it too.
