The Sumerians were an extremely advanced society for their time, influencing our knowledge of things to this day. This is a good compilation showing how the old Sumerian Kings can be related to the biblical stories and other legends.

It's a list of the old Sumerian Kings and how they can be related to other myths. IMO, I think the Jews of that time simply created the stories back then depending on what they experienced, I've read a theory saying that the "god" that they worshipped was actually slayed by Enkidu and Gilgamesh.

This is pretty close to what many scholars believe, although I am pretty sure it was Marduk that slayed/defeted Yahweh.

As you say, Yahwheh was originally one of a pantheon of gods. Yahweh was the God of the Jews, and Marduk of the Babylonians. When the Babylonians defeated the Jews, by tradition, their god should have been slayed, and they should have taken up worship of Marduk.

In a break from tradition, the Jews claimed Yahweh had not lost, and in fact he was the supreme/only god. They took many stories from the Epic of Gilgamesh and the Enuma Elish and reworked them for this new perspective (The similarites between Gilgamesh/Enkidu/Shamhat story and the Adam and Eve story. Other deities became angels and demons, etc.

Lots of fascinating history surrounding this. Heres a link to a journal article that normally is paywalled
