Honestly I blame neoliberals. They think that there is something shiny and special about Democracy. If a pack of idiots elect Trump, they think the education system is broken and not the system of government. If a pack of idiots elect Biden, they think that there is something shiny and special about Biden.
Democracy is mob rule. The fact that sometimes the mob gets it right doesn't change the fact that Democracy is mobocracy. Trying to export our values systems is a form of the very colonialism that neoliberals claim that they are trying to correct.

True democracy reduces the possibility of corruption. The more power you put in the fewer hands the faster you get tyranny.

In this case you are blaming the mob for the actions of a few. It is not a democratic vote which decided that defense contractors should steal the billions.

Instead you want to go back in time until you can find some way to blame the thing you hate. "Hur der if not for democracy we wouldn't have elected the corrupt politicians hur der". This entire framework of "but but but the thing I don't like lead to it" is retarded.

Democracy is NOT a neo liberal idea. Neo liberalism is all about cancel culture, big tech censorship, and appeal to authority. There is nothing democratic about any of that. Silencing anyone is the antithesis of democracy.

Power corrupts, and absolute power corrupts absolutely. The way to reduce corruption and evil is to break up power structures and disperse power as much as possible. And of course it's not perfect, but it is better than the alternatives.
