Who makes the pepes?

I see a lot of pepes with original art, that is also within the same stylistic pepe. They are usually hilarious and good, even have a younger pepo that will make you cry. So who is behind them?

Pepe was created by a guy named Matt Furie, but I don't think he draws them. The original image wasn't even in color; someone else colorized it.

Apparently, he sues people for using it, LOL. I put a smug pepe on s/goodgabs as a joke, but I might have to remove it before me, u/AXXA, or SaidIt gets sued.
