I think developing discipline is a must in order to improve our condition and change things, this quote from Aristotle is a good reminder.

Aristotle thought that happiness, as in living life the right way according to him only came by practice of the soul's faculties in relation to virtue. Aristotle makes a point that this takes a lot of practice, to the point of taking an "entire life".

The funny thing is that you're giving a pretty Marxist-sounding answer to the question begging: 'What for though, Aristotle?'

to improve our [material?] condition and change things

Well, I wouldn't call it marxist by itself, just ethical? but since you brought it up, Marx did made a lot of valid points in his works but at the end of the day he was a horrific racist, self hating Jew and kind of a douchebag.
